"Your rarely see much Russian River Zinfandel any more: most of the Zin has been converted to other varieties. This wine comes from an older vineyard that's technically in both RRV and Chalk Hill and wine makers Julie Lumgair and Margaret Davenport did a brillant job capturing the cherry/balckberry and sprice notes, adding a tad of oak for depth, and letting the wine dispaly claret-y nuances. Our 2011 Reserve showcases Mountain Blocks’ 35 and 42 beauty and power, with later ripening and lightly flavorful grapes from vines in a rocky swirled basalt volcanic soil. Deep violet color, then aromatic layers bursting with luscious, deep flavors of bright blueberry, cherry jam and juicy blackberry smoothly layered with black and white pepper. The close is long and complex, with spices and silky vanilla notes from true French barrel aging - a Zinfandel rarity. Perfect with grilled meats, robust cuisines and magic for sipping on its own!
