The 2009 Petite Sirah is a dark & soulful beauty. The grapes grow on a breathtaking vineyard block, overlooking hundreds of acres of Forever Wild Open Space. The wine is showing the benefits of 24 months of aging in French oak. Aromas and flavors of toasty vanilla are well balanced with bright Mission fig, boysenberry jam and hints of rich mocha. Petite Sirah pairs well with grilled meats and savory dishes.

This was our first bottling of Petite Sirah off vineyard block 35, located nearly 1,200 feet above sea level on the rocky, swirled basalt volcanic soils of the Chalk Hill region of the Russian River Valley. This low yielding block is known for its intensity and power, with later ripening and deep, rich flavors.

The entry is rich and concentrated while the structure and weight are mouth filling, closing with a long, complex finish. 24 months of aging in French oak barrels contribute aromas and flavors of toasty vanilla that are well-balanced with bright Mission fig, boysenberry jam and hints of carmelized mocha. The structure and long finish of this wine make it a perfect match for grilled meats, rich pasta dishes and savory sauces.
